Reading the numbers
Each provider counts differently (devices per month, active IPs per month, total IPs), so the numbers aren't comparable. See proxy pool size. What matters is depth, freshness and cleanliness where you target.
How to test
- Pick your top locations.
- Send 200 requests per location to an IP echo service through each provider.
- Count unique IPs.
- Run real requests and record success.
Residential tip: You can test all three for little or nothing: Rayobyte has a no-card free trial, Webshare a free plan and Geonode a low-cost residential trial. Run the same script through each. See our complete Rayobyte guide.
A worked depth test
Suppose you need residential IPs in Lyon, France. Send 200 requests through each provider targeted to Lyon and record the exit IPs:
- Unique IPs: 190 of 200 suggests a deep local pool; 60 of 200 suggests heavy reuse.
- Location accuracy: check how many geolocate to Lyon in two databases.
- Success on your target: run 100 real requests and count correct pages.
Repeat for each important location. You'll often find one provider is deeper in one country and another elsewhere, which is a good argument for routing by location.
Coverage beyond residential
- Static ISP: Rayobyte lists six countries; Webshare has a large static inventory across several; check Geonode's current list.
- Static datacenter: Rayobyte lists 29 countries; Webshare offers many locations.
- Mobile: Rayobyte in the US (others by request), Geonode in the US, UK and Australia, Webshare none.
See proxy pool size.
Strengths and watch-outs
| Provider | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Rayobyte | 190+ countries, 29 datacenter countries, US mobile | Static ISP in six countries |
| Geonode | Mobile in three countries | 150+ residential countries |
| Webshare | 195 countries, large static inventory | No mobile |
Proxy tip: If your residential usage comes in bursts, Geonode is worth a look: purchased GB doesn't expire and sticky sessions can last up to 24 hours. More in our complete Geonode guide.
Bottom line
Headline numbers don't settle it; test depth where you target and route by location.
For the bigger picture beyond our three partners, read our best proxies buyer's guide, and see cheap proxies for ways to cut cost per successful request. To understand the IP type behind this, read our residential proxies guide.
For head-to-head versions of this comparison, see Rayobyte vs Geonode IP Pools, Rayobyte vs Webshare IP Pools, Webshare vs Geonode IP Pools.
Budget tip: For jobs where a fixed IP list is enough, Webshare is one of the cheapest options: shared datacenter proxies are sold by the IP, and static residential (ISP) proxies cost well under a dollar per IP per month at the time of writing. More in our complete Webshare guide.
Key takeaways
- Webshare reports the most IPs and countries; Rayobyte reports devices a month; Geonode reports active IPs.
- The figures measure different things.
- Mobile coverage differs: Geonode three countries, Rayobyte US, Webshare none.
- Test depth in your locations.
FAQ
Which has the biggest pool?
The numbers aren't comparable; test in your locations.
Which covers the most countries?
Webshare lists 195 for residential.
Which has mobile coverage?
Rayobyte (US) and Geonode (US, UK, Australia).
Why do I keep getting the same IP?
The local pool is small. Widen targeting from ZIP to city or from city to state, or try another provider in that location.
Does a bigger pool mean fewer blocks?
Not by itself. Cleanliness and how the pool is used matter as much as size.
How do providers count pool size?
Some count devices per month, some active IPs, some total IPs, which is why figures differ.
Editorial note: Proxy providers change their pools, features and prices often, so treat any figures here as typical ranges at the time of writing and confirm current terms with the provider before you buy.
