What is a dedicated proxy?
A dedicated proxy is a proxy IP address assigned exclusively to one customer for the duration of their rental. No other customer of the provider sends traffic through it. Whatever reputation that IP builds on your target websites is the result of your own behaviour.
Dedicated proxies are most often datacenter proxies or ISP proxies. Rotating residential pools are shared by nature, although some providers sell "dedicated" residential pools that exclude other customers from using the same IPs on specific target domains.
Why exclusivity matters
On a shared proxy, you inherit everyone else's behaviour. If another customer used the IP to hammer the same retailer you're targeting, it might already be blocked before you send your first request. With a dedicated proxy:
- No neighbour risk. You don't get blocked for someone else's mistakes.
- Predictable performance. The bandwidth and connection capacity aren't split with others.
- Clean account history. Important if you log in to accounts.
- Whitelisting. You can give the IP to services that allow access by IP.
- Accountability. You know exactly what's been done from the IP.

Dedicated vs shared vs semi-dedicated
| Dedicated | Semi-dedicated | Shared | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Users per IP | 1 | 2 to 3 | Many |
| Price | Highest | Medium | Lowest |
| Block risk from others | None | Low | High |
| Best for | Accounts, sneakers, whitelisting | Light scraping | Testing, lenient sites |
See shared proxies for more on the cheaper options.
Dedicated datacenter vs dedicated ISP
- Dedicated datacenter: cheapest dedicated option, very fast, but recognisable as hosting IPs. Great for scraping tolerant sites, SEO tools on tolerant engines, and general automation.
- Dedicated ISP: registered to consumer ISPs, so more trusted. The go-to for sneaker proxies and social media management.
Pricing
At the time of writing, dedicated datacenter IPs commonly cost about $0.50 to $2.50 per IP per month; dedicated ISP IPs commonly $1.50 to $4. Volume discounts are significant. Prices for "private" proxies can be inflated by marketing; compare like for like. See cheap datacenter proxies.
Proxy tip: Geonode is one of the providers that sells all of the main types under one account: rotating and sticky residential, static ISP proxies with unmetered bandwidth, and rotating datacenter proxies. That makes it easy to test which type a target actually needs. More in our Geonode proxies guide.
What to check before buying
- Is it truly exclusive? Some "dedicated" proxies are only exclusive for a particular target site.
- Subnet spread. Dedicated IPs in one /24 share subnet reputation.
- Replacement policy. How quickly can you swap a banned IP?
- Location. Close to your targets for speed.
- Bandwidth and thread limits.
- Trial or refund window.
How to use dedicated proxies effectively
For scraping
Rotate across your dedicated list in code, track success per IP and per subnet, and keep per-IP request rates modest. Dedicated IPs let you build a clean history on a target; don't waste it by hammering. See proxy rotation strategies.
For accounts
Assign one dedicated IP to each account permanently. Record the mapping. If an IP must be replaced, request one in the same location.
For whitelisting
Give the dedicated IP to the service that needs to whitelist you (an API, a partner portal, a bank's B2B system). Because it's yours alone, the whitelist only admits you.
Dedicated proxy lifecycle
- Provisioning: you receive a list; test each IP.
- Warm-up: for account work, start with light activity.
- Steady use: monitor success and reputation.
- Replacement: swap IPs that get banned or degrade.
- Renewal: renew the IPs that perform; let poor ones lapse.
Dedicated residential?
Some providers sell "dedicated residential" pools: residential exits reserved so that other customers can't use them on your target domains, or long-lived residential sessions. These can help on contested targets but cost more. Ask exactly what's dedicated: the IPs, the targets, or just bandwidth. Compare with static residential proxies.
Budget tip: If you want a cheap proxy to try this with, Webshare has a free plan with 10 datacenter proxies and 1 GB of bandwidth a month, no card required. Paid lists let you pick proxy count, bandwidth and location. See Webshare datacenter proxies.
Dedicated proxies vs self-hosted servers
A VPS with a proxy server also gives you a dedicated IP. Buying dedicated proxies is usually cheaper per IP, offers more locations, and avoids server maintenance. Self-hosting gives you full control over a small number of IPs. See self-hosted Squid proxy.
Quick buying checklist
- Exclusive across all targets, not just one.
- At least several distinct /24s per order.
- Locations close to your targets or matching your accounts.
- Clear replacement policy.
- HTTP(S) and SOCKS5 support.
- Refund window or trial.
Residential tip: Rayobyte is worth testing when you need precise targeting: its residential proxies can be pinned to a country, state, city, ZIP code or ASN, with sticky sessions from 1 to 120 minutes. More in dedicated vs semi-dedicated Rayobyte proxies.
A day-one acceptance test
When a batch of dedicated proxies arrives, spend an hour checking it before you build anything on top of it. Most sellers replace faulty IPs readily in the first few days and less readily later.
- Connectivity and authentication. Every IP should answer on the documented port with your credentials or whitelisted address.
- Uniqueness. No duplicates in the list, and the IPs an echo service reports match the IPs you were sold.
- Subnet spread. Count how many distinct /24 blocks the IPs come from. Twenty IPs in one /24 often share their fate on the same site.
- Location. Check each IP's country and city in at least two IP databases against what you ordered.
- Reputation. Run each IP against your real targets at low volume and note any that are challenged immediately.
- Speed. Record latency from the server you'll actually use, not from your laptop.
Put the results in a spreadsheet with the delivery date, and send the seller one clear replacement request for anything that fails. The same record helps at renewal, when you decide which IPs to keep.

Providers often sell dedicated IPs as private proxies, so check what each label actually means. For jobs that need trusted home IPs rather than server IPs, see our residential proxies guide, and compare every type in best proxies in 2026.

FAQ
Are dedicated proxies the same as private proxies?
Usually. "Private" is mostly a marketing term for dedicated. See private proxies.
Can a dedicated proxy still be blocked?
Yes. Exclusivity protects you from others, not from your own behaviour or from subnet-level bans.
Do dedicated proxies rotate?
Not automatically. Rotate across a list of them in your code. See proxy rotation strategies.
