Why a no-card trial matters
Many providers ask for a card or a small payment before you can test. That's not a huge barrier, but it means a forgotten renewal can cost you. With a no-card trial, you can test, walk away and never be billed. It also makes it easy to test several products side by side, which is the best way to choose. Our guide to proxy free trials covers the general pros and cons.
A test plan that fits a trial
A trial is small, so spend it on the questions that decide your purchase:
- Pick your three hardest targets and two typical ones. Easy targets tell you nothing.
- Use your real code, at a modest concurrency, with your real headers and parsing.
- Run each target through rotating datacenter first, then rotating ISP, then Premium Residential. You'll learn which is the cheapest product that works per domain.
- Record per request: status code, block or CAPTCHA, response time, bytes transferred.
- Calculate cost per 1,000 successful results for each product using list prices.
- Try the Scraping API's free requests on the target that failed most often.
Our guide to testing Rayobyte proxies includes a short script that logs these numbers.
Residential tip: You can test most of this guide for free: Rayobyte offers a no-card trial on Premium Residential, rotating ISP and rotating datacenter proxies. Move to a paid plan once the pilot works. See our complete Rayobyte guide.
Making the bandwidth last
- Block images, fonts and media in browser tests; they can be 80% of page weight.
- Fetch the API or JSON endpoint instead of the full page when the site has one.
- Test small samples per target (50 to 200 requests is enough to see a pattern).
- Avoid retry storms. Cap retries at two while testing so a blocked target doesn't eat the trial.
After the trial
Most buyers end up in one of three places:
- Datacenter worked for most targets. Buy rotating datacenter traffic and a small residential top-up.
- Residential was needed. Buy Premium Residential at the tier that matches a month or two of use; tiers fall sharply at 50 GB and 250 GB.
- Nothing worked well on a few targets. Use the Scraping API or Web Unblocker for those only.
If you also need fixed IPs for accounts, ask sales for a static ISP test before buying the 5-IP minimum.
Proxy tip: For a second opinion on hard targets, run the same test through Geonode residential proxies, which support sticky sessions up to 24 hours and ASN targeting. We compare the two in Rayobyte vs Geonode.
Comparing trials across providers
Webshare has a permanent free plan with 10 datacenter proxies and 1 GB a month, which is better for long-term light use. Geonode sells a low-cost residential trial and gives 1,500 free Scraper API requests a month. Rayobyte's trial is broader across products and needs no card. Running all three on the same targets is the most reliable way to choose. See Rayobyte vs Geonode free trials, Rayobyte vs Webshare free options and all three compared.
Rayobyte, Geonode and Webshare are three options among many. Our best proxies in 2026 guide explains how to match a proxy type to each task, and cheap proxies that work shows where budget providers fit.
Budget tip: For jobs where a fixed IP list is enough, Webshare is one of the cheapest options: shared datacenter proxies are sold by the IP, and static residential (ISP) proxies cost well under a dollar per IP per month at the time of writing. More in Webshare's free proxy plan.
Key takeaways
- Rayobyte's self-serve rotating products, Web Unblocker and Scraping API all have free trials or allowances, with no card.
- Static ISP and mobile tests go through sales; Scale Residential needs a review.
- Spend the trial on your hardest targets and measure cost per successful result.
- Compare with Webshare's free plan and Geonode's trial if you're choosing between providers.
